As an added installment to the Old Bergen Vault EP series in our Digital Store, The Old Bergen Chronicle is now available for download. The booklet is salvaged from a collection of local historical photographs and documents. It also contains scraps of local social practices and myths. The booklet was found in the attic of an elder neighbor in the old Smithson homestead of the Lafayette section of Bergen City. It was an anonymous contribution, and we are honoring that request. The booklet gives an insight into the practices of Seances and spirit photography that were prevalent during the early days of Old Bergen; along with evidence of our turbulent revolutionary history.
Pothole Skinny will no longer release in Compact Disc format. For the time being, all future releases will be download only. This decision is partly due to environmental reasons. With the popularization of broadband distribution, it is faster, cheaper, and more environmentally friendly to download music. Besides the manufacturing of CDs – which requires oil as a raw material – the transportation footprint alone for getting CDs from the manufacturer to the distributor, to retailer, and then to consumer is astounding. In addition, the footprint to run the manufacturing plants is also a factor. We also realize that the same energy to run a computer contributes to the carbon footprint, but the difference is arguably less. To augment that, we started by choosing a hosting company that purchases renewable energy certificates that offset the carbon emissions generated by all of their business activities. Our apologies for those who do not have a broadband connection or access to a computer.
After a few years of quiet winds, Pothole Skinny is back and will begin rehearsing and recording new material in the new Connemera Winds studio. Alot has happened in two years. Steve & Tasha moved out of Jersey City to Bloomfield – the hometown of the historic Dirt Club, R. Stevie Moore, and the last stand of Tony Soprana. Frank is still in Philly creating entrepreneurial adventures, Mark Dagley has been very busy with Abaton and painting, and Scott & Megan celebrated their nuptials. To proclaim our return, we created a new website styled blog and made all of our ‘in print’ and ‘out of print’ releases available in our new digital store. We also wrangled together the archive from the Hutton house era, and made most of the music available in a new series of 9 EPs called The Old Bergen Vault. The tracks are a collection of unreleased, rare, and live recordings available for a special ‘pay your price’ offer.
In the meantime, enjoy a FREE download of one our last recordings from the old Hutton house:
